Cellulite Reduction New Jersey

In the past, cellulite was impossible to address. Now you can receive tangible, excellent results from one or more proven solutions at The Kaplan Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.

Cellulite is a harmless skin condition health-wise, but for some, it is harmful to their confidence. Cellulite is a fibrous tissue that grows under the skin and creates a bumpy, dimpled look. Patients who come in for cellulite treatments often express concern over cellulite under their buttocks. This is a common area for cellulite in women after puberty because the female body naturally distributes fat to the stomach, thighs, hips, and buttocks.

Myths float around that only those people who are overweight encounter problems with cellulite. People in great shape, who exercise regularly, have cellulite for reasons such as stretching the skin from building muscle during weight lifting, loose skin from weight loss, and more. The truth is that cellulite affects us all, and typically photos we see in magazines and social media are photoshopped and airbrushed to hide the fact that many of us have cellulite.

At The Kaplan Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, we understand that cellulite can hinder self-confidence. Dr. Gordon Kaplan, a board-certified plastic surgeon at The Kaplan Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Edgewater, NJ, is proud to offer an array of solutions for stubborn cellulite.

We offer three proven solutions for cellulite, all of which are effective and safe for most patients who do not have any underlying medical conditions:

  • Bellafill® Dermal Filler – During this treatment, the filler is injected into the individual dimples to “fill” them and make them appear more smooth.
  • Profractional Laser Treatment – This nonsurgical treatment involves a laser therapy treatment that addresses the collagen and elastin beneath the skin.
  • PDO Threads – A thread lifting procedure can be performed to lift the skin around the cellulite dimples and provide a softer, smoother appearance.

Dr. Kaplan uses Bellafill®, a long-lasting dermal filler, to address cellulite by filling the dimples combined with a subcision using a needle. During a subcision, Dr. Kaplan inserts a fine needle under the skin to release fibrotic strands that hinder the skin from rising. This hindrance is what causes the lumpy appearance of cellulite. The advantage of Bellafill® with subcision is that it not only releases these fibrotic strands but also stimulates collagen growth and the body’s healing response, avoiding rough scarring. Results will gradually show after a few weeks, while final results are typically visible after about three months.

What To Expect

During your Bellafill® cellulite reduction treatment, our team will help you meet your desired cosmetic goals. We’ll begin by washing the treatment area to cleanse it of oils, lotions, or debris. We will use a topical numbing cream to help you stay comfortable during your procedure. From there, we will insert a nokor needle under the skin. Dr. Kaplan will then move the needle back and forth to relocate the tissue within the dermis that’s causing the lumpy appearance of cellulite and will repeat as necessary. Bellafill® will then be injected into each dimple to help lift the skin and provide bovine collagen to absorb over time.

Recovery

After your cellulite reduction treatment with Bellafill®, you may experience some swelling and bruising, which is perfectly normal and will subside. Swelling may last somewhere between 3–10 days. We will give you specific washing instructions, but generally, you’ll just need to cleanse your skin using a gentle cleanser. If you need suggestions for a gentle cleanser, someone from our team can help you. We’ll then have you apply a healing ointment to promote healthy healing. It’s important to wear sunscreen if you plan on going outside to protect your healing skin from UV rays. Follow-up sessions will be scheduled for about 4–6 weeks after your first treatment.

How Long Do Bellafill® Results Last?

Multiple sessions may be necessary to achieve your goals. On average, Bellafill® results may continue to look smooth and healthy for up to 5 years following the last session of your treatment, as your natural collagen strengthens from the injection.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Kaplan uses the Sciton ProFractional laser to address and stimulate the collagen and elastin beneath your skin while keeping downtime low by creating micro-injuries in the skin. Cellulite can form in small patches in the skin, surrounded by healthy skin. ProFractional lasering is beneficial as it ablates narrow-diameter channels into the skin rather than full-field resurfacing. As the surrounding tissues remain intact, the treatment area is smaller, promoting a shorter downtime.

Sciton’s ProFractional laser is highly customizable and can be tailored to the individual patient, whether they require deep-remodeling in the dermis layer or more delicate, surface-level resurfacing.

What To Expect

The Kaplan Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery uses the Sciton Profractional laser as an effective cellulite reduction treatment. Before beginning this 45–60 minute procedure, we’ll cleanse your skin and apply a topical numbing cream as we do for Bellafill to help you stay comfortable. From there, Dr. Kaplan will glide the laser device over the treatment areas, followed by a cooling device that will keep you comfortable.

Recovery

Immediately after treatment, your skin will appear red and feel tender, but most redness will fade away within a week, and your smooth skin will begin to blossom and glow. You may have some pinpoint bleeding, but this is normal and is not cause for alarm. Dr. Kaplan or a member of his Edgewater, NJ team will provide instructions on the best way to promote healthy healing and cleansing at home. We recommend applying sunscreen to your skin each time you go outside during your recovery and trying to avoid sun exposure as much as possible until healed completely.

How Long Do ProFractional Laser Results Last?

Many patients claim to see results after just a week, but they will continue to improve and transform for up to six months. Results can last for 6-12 months. Typically, patients only need to return for 1-4 treatments to achieve the best results.

Dr. Gordan Kaplan uses smooth, absorbable polydioxanone PDO threads to non-surgically rejuvenate the skin and reduce irregularities. By finely placing these thin, hair-like threads under the skin, Dr. Kaplan can create a smoother appearance around the areas with cellulite. PDO threads stimulate blood flow in addition to the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid – all vital elements in keeping the skin healthy and young in appearance. PDO threads stimulate collagen, produce tight and lifted skin, and relax muscles.

What To Expect

Before we begin your cellulite reduction treatment, we will cleanse your skin and apply a topical numbing cream to ensure you remain comfortable before marking where we’re going to insert the PDO threads into your skin using a crosshatch pattern. Over 30–45 minutes, Dr. Kaplan will insert the threads underneath the skin and into the dermis using a needle. After about 3–4 weeks, collagen will begin to form, and the skin will start repairing itself. You will not feel or see the PDO threads once they have been inserted into your skin.

Recovery

After your cellulite reduction treatment with smooth PDO threads, you can return to your daily routine as little to no downtime is required. You can expect some swelling, bruising, bleeding, and tenderness or feel mild pain, but this will disappear in time. After about a month, collagen will begin to form and peak about six months after your appointment.

How Long Do Threadlift Results Last?

While the PDO threads Dr. Kaplan places will dissolve naturally after four to six months, the results they leave in collagen and elastin production can last up to two years. You’ll be able to thrive in smooth, youthful skin for years before you’re due for another session.

Under most circumstances, you can return to your daily activities the day after your treatment. However, we highly recommend you refrain from overexertion for a few days to allow the treatment area the opportunity to heal. After your procedure, you should expect tenderness, swelling, and bruising. These side effects aren’t typically severe and disappear in a few days. Following your treatment, you may notice tangible results within days. Continued improvement and peak results will appear in the weeks and months that follow. Those who maintain a healthy weight will yield the longest-lasting results, but treatment can be safely repeated as necessary.
