IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) also known as a photofacial, is the latest modern procedure to rejuvenate skin gently. Rejuve Medspa at The Kaplan Center specializes in IPL photofacial for their patients in NJ. If you suffer from red, blotchy skin, the IPL treatment will transform your skin into a radiant complexion. It is also used to treat sun damage, age spots, and rosacea. The IPL light penetrates the skin at a range of wavelengths that targets red and brown spots, resulting in a even skin tone. IPL also brightens the skin. Depending on the severity of the symptoms, NJ patients see results in one to three treatments.

How does IPL work?

A photofacial is a 30-minute treatment in which intense pulses of light penetrate deep into the skin that causes collagen and blood vessels below the epidermis to constrict, reducing redness and age lines. The treatment has minimal discomfort, redness and swelling that sometimes occurs after treatment will disappear shortly. Most benefits of IPL occur gradually in the weeks following treatment.

IPL for Brown and Red spots

Within that range of light are wavelengths of light that are easily absorbed by browns and reds. The browns and reds of the skin are heated when they light is absorbed by them. Our skin cells are always rising to the surface and flaking off, and the darkened spots do the same. This process can take days to weeks to complete depending on how “deep” the brown spot is

Reds are reduced in appearance because heating the vessels causes them to shrink. It takes several treatment sessions to obtain optimal results

IPL for Acne

IPL can give good results for people with active acne. More down time and peeling with this treatment but it helps a great deal to control the active acne and improve discoloration from previous breakouts. While doing treatments and after you finish you should also consider a good at home regimen for optimal results that can be discussed with the aesthetician.

IPL for Rosacea

IPL treatments can be very effective for the redness and flushing component of rosacea. By treating the blood vessels, the vascular response is diminished.  It will virtually eliminate the redness; your skin will be much smoother, and firmer.

Ideal candidates in NJ for IPL treatment:

People in NJ who have sun-damaged, blotchy, discolored skin, large pores, freckles, or wrinkles and redness can benefit from an IPL treatment.

IPL recovery

IPL can have little to no down time depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment you might have some redness and or darkened brown spots after treatment. When treating pigmentation (brown/age spots) it can take 7-10 days for the darkened areas to exfoliate off. There isn’t true down time as we are not removing any tissue. After treatment, NJ patients may feel a sunburn like sensation which is normal and will subside. The recovery time after treating Melasma or Rosacea is minimal, usually is 24 hours, unless the Rosacea is severe, in which case it may take up to 2 days or longer.
