Liposuction is a surgical procedure to help men shape and contour the body to give a more athletic and fit physique. Dr. Gordon Kaplan specializes in male liposuction in NJ and is proud to offer his patients his extensive experience and expertise. Liposuction is becoming the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the U.S. today. It helps men to get rid of fat deposits around their waists, legs, arms, buttocks, and other parts of their bodies and achieve tighter, smoother, more defined contours. Now men in NYC can remove unwanted fat that have not responded to diet and exercise programs using Dr. Gordon Kaplan’s liposuction techniques. One of the most common areas for liposuction for our male patients in New Jersey is the waist, also known as “love handles”.

Liposuction Procedure for Men in NJ

Liposuction involves the use of a small, stainless steel tube, called a cannula. The cannula is connected to a powerful suction pump and inserted into the fat through small incisions in the skin. Fat removal is accomplished as the suction cannula creates tiny tunnels through the fatty layers. Post-operative, these tiny tunnels collapse and result in an enhanced body contour. Depending on the amount of fat being removed, the liposuction surgery for men may last from 1-5 hours in Dr. Kaplan’s New Jersey clinic.

Common areas for male liposuction:

  • Thighs
  • Hips and buttocks
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Upper arms
  • Back
  • Inner knee
  • Chest area
  • Neck
  • Cheeks, chin and neck

Ideal male liposuction candidates:

Ideal male candidates in NJ for liposuction include:

  • Males within 30% of their ideal weight who have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone
  • Healthy individuals who do not have a life-threatening illness or medical conditions that can impair healing
  • Non-smokers
  • Individuals with a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for body contouring

Men who are bothered by excess fat deposits – located anywhere on your body – that don’t respond to diet or exercise, liposuction may be right for you.

After your liposuction procedure, you will see swelling and some bruising. You may have some discomfort around the area of the incisions, which can be relieved by prescription medication from Dr. Kaplan. You may also feel some numbness or loss of feeling around the area of the liposuction, but this will only be temporary.

For the first few weeks following your liposuction procedure, you will wear a compression garment that will help treated areas conform to their new shape. After a few weeks, you’ll be able to remove the garment at night and will just need to keep it on during the day. If there were stitches placed during your liposuction procedure, they will most likely come out in a few days following your procedure.

Keep in mind that everybody heals at a different pace. Following the directions of Dr. Kaplan is very important to achieve optimum healing. Some people return to work after liposuction in just a few days, others might wait 1 to 2 weeks. You’ll visit Dr. Kaplan several times following your procedure to monitor your recuperation progress.

Common questions about liposuction for men

What type of anesthesia is used for liposuction?

Usually a general anesthesia is used for liposuction, but in some cases, depending on the extent of the liposuction procedure, a local anesthesia may be used. Other times, some plastic surgeons use an epidural. Dr. Kaplan will determine what type of anesthesia is best for you during consultation.

Are there a lot of scars after lipsuction?

Scarring is very minimal after liposuction. Dr. Kaplan will make every effort to make the incisions in areas that will help hide the scars so that they will be virtually undetectable.

Is liposuction permanent?

The results of liposuction can be very long lasting, especially if you watch your diet and are active.

Is liposuction covered by insurance?

In most cases, liposuction is considered an elective cosmetic surgery and unfortunately is not covered by insurance. You should discuss this with Dr. Kaplan and with your health insurance provider.
