Breast Reduction in New Jersey
Breast reduction (“reduction mammaplasty”) decreases the size of overly large breasts by removing excess tissue and skin. Dr. Kaplan Gordon specializes in breast reduction for his patients in New Jersey.
Have you always been unhappy with your big, heavy, over-sized breasts? They can be physically uncomfortable, often causing neck, shoulder, and back pain. It can also make it extremely difficult to exercise, play sports, swim, fit into clothing, or simply function on a daily basis without pain and decreasing/affecting other areas of health benefits for optimal quality of life. Large breasts can also make you feel self-conscious by drawing unwanted attention. Breast reduction surgery can free you from the physical and emotional pain and help you move more freely and confidently.
Breast reduction surgery is meant to reduce the size of the breasts to improve the life of the patient. It is classified as reconstructive rather than cosmetic because it is done to improve a condition rather than a physical enhancement. Breast reduction is considered a common surgery and a safe procedure performed by Dr. Kaplan for his NJ patients.

Dr. Kaplan was also helpful and professional in providing guidance. I liked that he doesn’t pressure you or try to up sell, which I’ve heard of other doctors and places doing. Breast reduction surgery is usually performed with an anchor-shaped incision. This incision resembles the shape of a boat anchor as it traces the areola, drops down, and follows the curve below the breast.
Through the incision, Dr. Kaplan will remove the extra tissue, fat, and skin that have caused your breasts to be too large. Dr. Kaplan will also reposition the nipple and areola and will shape the breasts around them, giving you a new, firmer contour. Sometimes, liposuction is used to eliminate extra fatty tissue from under the arms. Nothing will be done without proper consent and understanding of the full steps of the procedure.
When the breasts are very large or hang extremely, both the nipples and areolas are then repositioned through grafting.
After your breast reduction surgery, you will experience some discomfort and pain for about 3 to 7 days, which can be controlled with prescription medication. For the first day or 2 following your surgery, you may have a drainage tube inserted to eliminate blood and fluids more effectively from the incision areas.
Initially, you will need to wear an elastic bandage held in place with a surgical bra. When your bandages are removed, you will need to continue wearing the surgical bra until the swelling and bruising subside. This usually occurs within several weeks. In most cases, stitches are removed within 3 weeks post-surgery.
As you heal, you will continue to feel less and less discomfort. You may feel achy for a few weeks following your surgery. During this time, you should not do any heavy lifting or strenuous pushing, especially a rigorous exercise regimen. Follow the directions of Dr. Kaplan regarding returning to work, exercise, and sexual activity.
Remember that you will have less energy for a few weeks following your surgery and that you need to reduce your physical activity to help your body fully recover.
Potential Risks and Complication
After breast reduction surgery, some NJ patients might experience a temporary infection, some bleeding, or have a reaction to the type of anesthesia used during the operation. These conditions are rare and your plastic surgeon will give you detailed instructions to follow to assist in the prevention of these possible outcomes.
Some patients may also notice small sores in the nipple area, which can be treated with a cream prescribed by Dr. Kaplan.
Scarring is inevitable with breast reduction surgery, although Dr. Kaplan will make every effort to conceal the scarring as much as possible. These scars will fade over time, however, they will be permanent. It is very important to follow Dr. Kaplan’s directions pre-and post-operative to promote optimum scar healing.
