About A Brow Lift

A brow lift or a forehead lift surgery can lift and smooth your forehead, removing wrinkles & frown lines and lifting your eyebrows. Dr. Gordon Kaplan specializes in brow lift and forehead lift procedures for his patients. The Brow Lift procedure may help with the downward migration of the eyebrows as the person ages. Many patients often find that as they approach their late 40s to early 50s that their brows are beginning to lose youthful appearance, and choose to opt for a brow or a forehead lift.

Depending on your individual conditions, Dr. Kaplan will determine which brow lift technique will provide you with the best results. Typically this procedure takes about 2 hours to complete in Dr. Kaplan’s offices located near Edgewater and Montvale, NJ, and near 30 E 60th St. NY, New York 10022.

Benefits Of A Brow Lift

The benefits of a brow lift may revive your youthful appearance while eliminating deep frown or squint lines. You will have a more youthful and refreshing appearance.

Brow lift procedure may also provide effective treatment for the following cosmetic issues:

  • Drooping brows
  • Angry or tired appearance
  • Horizontal lines across the forehead
  • Heavy upper eyelids

The Brow Lift Procedure

There are many different techniques for performing a brow lift or a forehead lift. The choice of technique is determined on a case-by-case basis and each patient’s needs.

  • Coronal brow lift: A coronal brow lift is done by hiding an incision in the scalp, behind the hairline, that extends from ear to ear.
  • Hairline brow lift (trichial): A hairline brow lift (trichial) may be ideal for patients with very high foreheads because the hairline will not be raised.
  • Temporal brow lift: Temporal brow lift can be performed if only a portion of the eyebrow needs to be raised.
  • Endoscopic brow lift: Endoscopic brow lifts are performed through 3-5 small incisions hidden in the scalp and avoid the large scar in the scalp while preserving scalp sensation.
  • Lateral brow lift: A lateral brow lift addresses the outer portion of the brows while giving the eyes a lifted look.

Brow lift surgeries are performed by Dr. Gordon Kaplan in our plastic surgery offices located in New Jersey and New York City.

Preparing for a brow lift or a forehead lift before your procedure, Dr. Kaplan will discuss your goals for the surgery and ask about your medical history and any medication that you take. It is recommended to stop taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicines such as Aleve, Motrin, or Advil one week prior to your brow lift surgery. Dr. Kaplan and his staff will provide you with a list of over-the-counter medications and supplements to avoid during your preoperative consultation. You should also avoid any alcohol consumption three days prior to your surgery to decrease fluid retention and swelling. You should discuss all of the medicines that you are on with Dr. Kaplan.

After a brow lift procedure, patients experience some swelling and bruising in the forehead, head, or even the eye or cheek area. This is normal and can take up to a couple of weeks to resolve. Some patients may go back to work after a week, depending on their recovery and post-op evaluation by Dr. Kaplan. Your forehead and head will be loosely wrapped overnight, which further helps to minimize swelling. You may be given a prescription for pain medicine or antibiotics if needed by Dr. Kaplan, although most patients do not require much pain medicine after the first day or two. You will be able to shower and shampoo your hair within two days or as soon as the bandage is removed.
