Juvéderm® New Jersey
The Juvéderm® family of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers provides a smooth, long-lasting correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm® injectable gel is for injection into areas of the facial tissues where the folds and wrinkles occur to temporarily add volume to the skin, most common around the nose and mouth.
About Juvéderm®
Juvéderm® is the first smooth consistency gel formulation and the only hyaluronic acid dermal filler approved by the FDA to last up to one year from initial treatment. Juvéderm® is developed using the proprietary HYLACROSS™ technology, an advanced manufacturing process that results in a malleable, smooth gel that flows easily and consistently into the skin and provides a predictable result. All other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers currently on the market have a granular consistency gel. These granules can be seen under 2.4x magnification as opposed to the smooth consistency gel of the Juvéderm® dermal fillers.
In 2010, the FDA approved Juvéderm® XC formulated with the local anesthetic lidocaine to provide patients with a more comfortable injection experience when compared to the non-lidocaine formulation, and potentially less time spent in the physician’s office. Juvéderm® Ultra XC and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC contain 0.3% preservative-free lidocaine and numb the treatment area within seconds, potentially reducing the need for an additional anesthetic. Juvéderm® XC products provide the same smooth, long-lasting results as demonstrated.
It is also used as a lip augmentation agent, and to fill in hollow places and scars on the face. However, all hyaluronic acid facial filler products are eventually absorbed by the body, usually within six to nine months, causing the patient to undergo repeat injections to maintain the younger look. Juvéderm is also used by physicians to plump lips, which also lose fat and internal shape with normal aging.
To provide physicians with the flexibility to tailor each treatment to the specific needs of the patient, the Juvéderm® family of dermal fillers include Juvéderm®Ultra and Juvéderm® Ultra XC with lidocaine, highly cross-linked formulations for more versatility in contouring and volumizing of facial wrinkles and folds; and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC with lidocaine, more highly cross-linked robust formulations for volumizing and correction of deeper folds and wrinkles.

How It Works
Juvéderm® contains a naturally occurring sugar called hyaluronic acid, which has the remarkably helpful property of binding to water. As the acid attracts water, it “plumps up” the skin, filling and smoothing out any surface wrinkles. In essence, it helps replace the cushion of fatty tissue that we lose as we age and as our skin becomes damaged by the sun’s ultraviolet light.
Procedure
Most treatment sessions take only about 15 minutes. As with all dermal fillers, Juvederm® is injected into the treatment area with an extremely fine needle. Any discomfort is usually minimal, although your physician may numb your skin with a topical anesthetic beforehand. You won’t need any pre-treatment allergy testing, however, because Juvederm doesn’t contain any allergy-causing animal-derived ingredients. It’s entirely biodegradable.
Recovery
Juvéderm® is a minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure. Patients can expect to return to work and other daily activities immediately after treatment. As with any injectable treatment, patients may experience some mild redness, swelling, and tenderness after the procedure, but the side effects are normal and typically subside within a few days.
